Welcome

This blog is about me travelling the world. It's about the trips I've done, the trips I will do in the future and the trips that are on my to-do-list. I also try to give some advice upon request, which you can find in the 'Can I help you?' section.

Brno / Prague - early march '12

I try to get away once every two or three months, and looking for a trip in march I stumbled upon a cheap flight to Brno in the Czech Republic. One of the disadvantages of cheap airlines however are the facts you have to deal with a timetable where sometimes there are only two or three flights in a week and flights leaving at times like 6:10 in the morning. In this case it would mean landing in Brno on Friday, and leaving on Monday morning, forcing us to take two days off of work ánd spending three full days in a relatively small city.

The type of tourist that rushes through a city like me can see a city like Brno in less than a day, so the search for another city to combine Brno with started, and pretty soon it was clear Prague is the city where my flight home leaves. One of my favorite cities in Europe, always good to come back there and with a flight leaving Sunday afternoon, a perfect match.

Given the fact we'll arrive in Brno pretty early and there's not that much accommodation to choose from, we decided to go for two nights in Prague, meaning we leave Brno somewhere on the Friday and stay two nights in the same hotel. A nice discount called Sporo Tiket is available on trains in the Czech Republic and it gives one the permission to take any train on the booked route on the date of your ticket for a very reasonable price. In this case: 170 CZK, or 6.5€. Not bad! Trains in the Czech Republic are quite modern and the 255 km trip will take us less than 3 hours. Just sit, relax, enjoy the landscape and of course, since this is where they invented the source of billion hangovers worldwide, some pivo!

About what to do in Brno, don't know yet, probably putting our bags in a locker at the station and just stroll through the city centre. Having some breakfast there and a good Czech style lunchmeal before taking the train to Prague. Oh, I look forward to eat hermelin again, they should have that shit worldwide! In Prague i'll just walk through the city, go to my favorite bars/restaurants (25€ is more than enough to go out breakfast, for dinner at 16:00, and again at 21:00 :)), meet up with some friends living there and maybe a party on Saturday night.
